Breast cancer is the second most common type of cancer among American women, and over 250,000 new cases are diagnosed each year in the United States alone.
Limiting the Spread of Cancer Cells with CBD
Discoveries that can prevent the spread of breast cancer are welcome news. In recent years, researchers have been studying the effects of cannabidiol (CBD) on breast cancer. As far back as 2006, scientists were publishing studies on the anti-tumor and anti-proliferative (stopping the spread of cancer) effects of CBD and other cannabinoids.
Until now, research efforts, especially in the United States, have been hampered by the legal status of CBD. The 2018 Farm Bill signed last December should change that. The bill made CBD oil legal at the federal level, permitting its shipment to all 50 states. Now, scientists will have much better access to CBD to continue their research and advance their studies.
What We Know About CBD and Cancer
As this study in the journal Molecular Cancer Therapeutics explains, a gene called ID-1 often regulates breast cancer aggressiveness. CBD is the first non-toxic substance discovered that can inhibit ID-1 expression, effectively making breast cancer less likely to spread.
Based on this research, CBD has not demonstrated any negative side effects and is non-toxic, making it a type of “holy grail” for cancer therapy.
There is far more evidence for CBD’s potential cancer benefit than this single study. This article from The Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics conveys the promising results from not only CBD but also associated cannabinoids found in MARK3 Full-Spectrum CBD Oil.
The Current State of CBD and Cancer Research
Studies to date have been conducted in cell cultures (in vitro) or in laboratory mice (in vivo). These are the first steps in medical research, and the anti-cancer effects of CBD have not yet been proven in human trials.
However, the relaxing of anti-CBD regulations will likely lead to an explosion in research and proven beneficial effects in humans. For now, you can certainly try CBD oil supplementation for your situation with the approval of your physician.
