Older Americans are getting to know the wellness benefits of CBD oil
Seniors are embracing CBD oil and discovering that they are happy with the results. Although some older people are reluctant to try CBD oil due to its associations with marijuana, many discover that it cannabidiol delivers numerous health benefits and can noticeably improve quality of life. Although CBD oil is derived from the hemp plant, cannabidiols do not contain THC – the active ingredient in cannabis products. When ingesting CBD oil, there’s no need to worry about getting “high” to benefit from the positive effects of this nontoxic, natural healing substance.
CBD by the numbers
The data is striking. The figures below demonstrate how seniors are enjoying the health advantages of CBD oil.
- 31.1% of seniors reported their quality of life as “good” before trying CBD oil. This number more than doubled to over 65% after using CBD oil.
Older people cited common health reasons for trying CBD oil. While these conditions can affect people of any age, they are particularly frequent among seniors. Here’s the breakdown:
- 42% tried CBD for inflammation
- 40.9% of the seniors in the survey turned to CBD for help with chronic pain
- 38.6% reported they use CBD to alleviate sleep problems
- 31.8% cited arthritis as their reason for using CBD
Smaller percentages used CBD for a variety of other reasons, including anxiety, stress, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Seniors turned to CBD oil seeking relief from those ailments, but did CBD deliver the results seniors wanted? The answer is yes:
- CBD helped with pain reduction (61.1%)
- CBD increased their sleep quality (45.6%)
- CBD lowered their anxiety (30.0%)
- CBD decreased their stress (30.0%)
Less than 17% of seniors reported no perceived benefits from CBD.
There is virtually no other health supplement or medication that can deliver such wide-ranging wellness outcomes without side effects or risk of addiction. Seniors are beginning to understand the benefits CBD can provide.
In fact, more than three-quarters (78%) of the seniors who responded to the survey said they were satisfied with the effects of CBD. An even greater number, 89%, reported that they would recommend CBD to friends or family members with health problems.
Growing interest in CBD products among seniors
In 2019, only a small number of Americans over the age of 54, around 9%, had tried CBD as a remedy for health-related issues. Misconceptions about cannabis and hemp products have likely deterred many. Other seniors mistakenly believe CBD is still an illegal substance. The truth is cannabidiol and CBD oil are 100% in all 50 states since, passage of the Farm Bill in December 2018.
Another misconception is that CBD oil is addictive or intoxicating. This is not true about CBD oil. It contains no THC, the psychoactive compound in marijuana.
Some seniors don’t understand how CBD is consumed and are afraid to ask. Most don’t realize they can easily ingest CBD oil by simply placing a few drops under the tongue.
CBD is a safe, natural alternative to pharmaceutical drugs and opioids, and seniors are taking advantages of the benefits in growing numbers.
